A recent wedding that I did proved a real challenge as one of the clients had ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I had had a glimpse of this during my pre-wedding contact with the client, and I was told up-front that the client had ADHD, but I was not fully prepared for how this would effect the client's behaviour at the wedding.

The client's attention was certainly not on the proceedings, and their attention had to be continually redirected to what was happening, particularly the areas where they needed to make a response/statement. Even during the signing of the papers at the end of the ceremony, this client's attention was on everything other than the task at hand. It was a difficult situation to manage.

What I've learnt from this is that I will need to think very carefully in future about how to deal appropriately with clients with ADHD. Their attention span is severely limited, and I will need to think carefully about how to manage the behaviour so that the ceremony is not unduly disrupted.

I have just yesterday created a group on Facebook to promote my work as a civil celebrant. The group is open to anyone to join, and some of my past clients have already done so. One past client has even posted photos.

The name of my Facebook group is "Ceremonies By Sharon L Norris CMC, CPC".

You can find Facebook at: www.facebook.com.au.

Saturday, 2nd January was another milestone day for me - I conducted my 250th wedding. The day was extremely warm but the venue was undercover and slightly elevated so there was a bit of breeze about. Thankfully! The bride was beautiful in white with deep green, the groom and his guys wore black and the obligatory sunnies, and the bridesmaids were glorious in deep green.

The ceremony was short and sweet, as requested by the couple, and involved their family and friends.

I am writing something for the milestones page of my website, but it's not up yet.
