 About Me

"Mrs Norris - you've got the same name as that cat from Harry Potter!"

~ Out of the mouths of babes ~

Apart from sharing the same name as one of the most famous cats in modern literature (!), as the mother of two daughters I wear many hats in our home - chef, fashion consultant, teacher, taxi-driver, swimming instructor, athletics coach, police officer, banking and investment adviser, confidante, preacher, peacekeeper, and tour guide. The one thing I can't do is sing, so fortunately for those at home and elsewhere, I'm not licensed to trill.  ;}

The one thing I do really well (thankfully!) is write. I've written since I was a child and over the years my skills with words have developed to extend beyond the creative to the technical. My greatest wish ever was to see my name on the cover of a book, and in 2005 this happened with the publication of two of my novels for children - "The Balloonatic!" and "Finders Keepers". I have since had further books published (see my Writing Page).

My qualifications include a Graduate Diploma of Civil Ceremonies from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Communication (with Distinction) from Queensland University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) from Griffith University. The Federal Government registered me as a civil marriage celebrant in September 2004, and I have subsequently undertaken non-accredited training in funeral and general ceremonies.

As part of my commitment to celebrancy, I am a member of the Civil Celebrants Graduate Association (Monash), and the Humanist Celebrant Network.

My past career includes fourteen years in the State Government and the tertiary education sector. This experience has provided me with an extensive range of skills including event planning and management, technical writing, fundraising, alumni relations, project management and research. These skills have been particularly useful to me as a Civil Marriage & General Civil Celebrant.

My personal philosophy: "grab hold of life with both hands and hang on for the ride, 'cause you only get to do it once."

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PROMOTIONAL SLOGANS USED ON THIS SITE AND COPYRIGHT:

The terms "Simply Magic Ceremonies By Sharon L Norris" and "A Touch Of Magic To Your Special Day" are promotional slogans, not business trading names, as I operate under my own name. These slogans have been used since 2005 and 2008 respectively, and come from the fact that I share the same name as Filch's cat in the magical Harry Potter series, of which I am a huge fan. They are not registered terms. However, if any individual or business has an issue with me using these terms as part of my business operations, please contact me. Unlike Filch's cat, I will not bite or scratch...

Thank you for making the most

important day of my life

also the most wonderful!
